Living and Working
Craftsmen belong among the 8,000 jobs just as much as the manager from Bosch. Business people mingle with farmers. The Town Hall acts as “The People’s House” and as the centre for all services.
Attractive Housing
A lot of new small estates have grown up on the edge of the town. For any new buildings in the town itself, the emphasis is on in-filling. The re-development of the town centre is in its final stage. Retail traders shape the town’s image. The U6 metro links Gerlingen with the heart of Stuttgart in just 26 minutes. The A8 (Karlsruhe – Munich) and the A81 (Heilbronn – Singen) run close by the town. Anyone who lands at Stuttgart Airport can cover the 15 miles to Gerlingen along fast roads.
Young and Old Together
Several years ago Gerlingen was chosen as a “family-friendly” town. There are many facilities for the care of its children and young people. Pupils can attend all the different kinds of schools in Gerlingen. The town offers very attractive choices for leisure activities such as the Youth Club, the Children’s Theatre and the children’s summer holiday scheme. An active Youth Council looks after the interests of Gerlingen’s young people. Leisure activities for the disabled are well catered for.
The older generation plays an important role in Gerlingen. With the creation of “The Network of ‘People With One Another – For One Another’ ” individual groups have all been drawn together. The Social Services offer more help. Apart from the facilities for the elderly at Breitwiesen House, the town can also offer its senior citizens “sheltered accommodation”.
Gerlingen in Action
It is in the sports halls that Gerlingen really comes alive. You can sweat it out in the civic saunas and Turkish baths apart from also enjoying the swimming pool. There are also playgrounds, a minigolf course and a boule rink, gymnastics studios, jogging and walking groups and fitness centres.
And everywhere you can hear the slogan: “Join a club for the best sport!”
People in Gerlingen can pass their spare time in more than 100 clubs. Sport and cultural activities are most popular. The whole of Gerlingen comes out to the Music Festival or to the Street Festival. The commitment of the town’s churches is praise-worthy. A great deal is achieved by the commitment of the community. It is not without a sense of pride that many Gerlingen men and women can be heard to say: “We come from Gerlingen!”
Friends All Over the World
People from more than 80 different countries live together in Gerlingen. Town twinning means more for Gerlingen than just the exchange of delegations. Since 1969 Gerlingen has taken over the responsibility for the welfare and cultural association for all those ethnic Germans who had their home in Hungary until the end of the second world war. The people of Vesoul (France, 1964), of Tata (Hungary, 1987) and Seaham (England, 1988) have become our friends. Through their regular school exchanges, the young people continue to further this international understanding. In 1999 Gerlingen was awarded the Plaque of Honour by the European Parliament for its exceptional international commitment – an honour for every citizen of the town.

Culture for Everyone
Many important roles are played out within the cultural life of the town. Art lovers meet at exhibitions in the Town Hall Gallery, theatre-goers in the Concert Hall at performances by well-known touring companies and film freaks love the mobile cinema. The bookworm can lose himself among the shelves in the Town Library. The special exhibitions in the Town Museum and the concert evenings are all a part of the cultural scene. But it is quite definitely the clubs who put their stamp on the cultural life of the town.
Looking Back
History also has its place in Gerlingen. The Town Museum also houses the Museum for the Germans from Hungary, who from 1945 onwards quite definitely contributed to the town’s economic upturn. The Golden Jubilee, celebrating the official raising of the village of Gerlingen to the status of a town, has already been entered in the diary for 2008.
The family of Friedrich Schiller, the Prince of Poets, lived from 1775 until 1796 at Schloss Solitude, which had belonged within the boundaries of Gerlingen until 1942. The poet’s father, Johann Caspar, and his sister, Nanette, are buried at the side of St. Peter’s Church, the oldest architectural monument in the town.
Visitors can sense a breath of history in the Missionary Room in Johann Rebmann’s birthplace which was lovingly restored in 2004. He was the first European in the 18th century to discover the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro.
Relaxation
On your very own doorstep you can find real nature. Walks, vine-clad slopes and green meadows. Relaxation in the most forested community in the region of Ludwigsburg. Out of the town’s total of 3,500 acres, 2,800 are either woods, meadows, fields or gardens. The people of Gerlingen feel well and happy in their town – on their doorstep: total relaxation.
Keep Talking
Gerlingen has enormous potential for development. The town is never silent. People are talking to one another all the time. Just visit the weekly market on Saturdays. There you’ll meet your neighbours and your friends or you can have a friendly chat with the mayor on one of his regular Saturday morning appearances. Contacts are soon established. You might bump into someone you know at every corner.

Ville verte ( plus de 1400 hectares de forêts)et fleurie, Gerlingen s’étend et attire par la diversité de l’offre culturelle et sportive.
Son patrimoine historique mêlé à une architecture moderne créent une ambiance incomparable, au sein de laquelle une vie commerçante, active et diversifiée, invite à y faire des courses aussi bien qu’à y flâner.
Sa vocation internationale est marquée par un jumelage très actif avec les villes de Vesoul (France), Tata (Hongrie) et Seaham (Grande-Bretagne).
Attractive
Gerlingen est très bien desservie par l’autoroute et les transports publics. L’aéroport de Stuttgart-Echterdingen est à 24 km accessible par voie express et autoroute. Le tramway U6 vous amène en 27 mn du centre-ville à la gare centrale de Stuttgart.
Quelques 500 entreprises s’y sont établies, du siège social de Robert Bosch jusqu’aux entreprises artisanales. La ville offre plus de 8000 emplois.
L’enseignement primaire et secondaire, la piscine, la bibliothèque, l’école de musique font partie d’une excellente infrastructure, aussi bien que la clinique Schillerhöhe, centre célèbre de pneumologie.
La mairie se veut au centre des préoccupations des citoyens.

Gerlingen attire les familles grâce à la diversité de l’offre des activités culturelles, sportives et adaptées aux jeunes. Plus de 100 associations culturelles et sportives mettent en place la fameuse fête municipale début septembre. L’engagement des citoyens est exemplaire.

Une maison de retraite ainsi que des logements assistés médicalement accueillent les générations des moins jeunes. De nombreuses activités de randonnées et rencontres sont organisées.
Les générations se donnent la main : des grands-parents gardent les plus petits et un projet de maison à plusieurs générations a vu le jour.

Gerlingen elővárosa Baden-Württemberg tartományi székhelyének, Stuttgartnak. Az egykori sváb parasztfalu napjainkra 19 ezer lakosú várossá fejlődött. Az itt lakók kényelmét uszoda, turnészínház, mozi, és egyéb sportlétesítmények szolgálják. A gyerekek is megtalálják helyüket a városban. Iskoláink a ranglistavezetők közé tartoznak. Kedvező lakhatási feltételek és változatos vásárlási lehetőségek teszik kényelmessé településünket. Gerlingen olyan hely, ahol jól érzi magát az ember.
Több út vezet hozzánk
A helyi közlekedés nagyon jól szervezett: az U6-os HÉV vonal köti össze Gerlingent Stuttgart központjával. Az út mindössze 26 percig tart. Autópályák és gyorsforgalmi utak futnak városunk kapui előtt. A stuttgarti repülőtérről is könnyen megközelíthető településünk.
„Mi magunk vagyunk Gerlingen”
Gerlingenben több mint 100 egyesület működik. Rendezvényeink többsége elképzelhetetlen volna az önkéntes segítők közreműködése nélkül. Hagyományos zenei fesztiválunk és a Straßenfest alkalmával Gerlingen teljes lakossága megmozdul. A lokálpatriotizmus nálunk csupa nagybetűvel írandó. Városunk polgárai jogos büszkeséggel mondhatják: „Mi magunk vagyunk Gerlingen”.
Szorgalmas svábok
A mesteremberek álláshelyétől a Bosch cég csúcsmenedzseri posztjáig több mint 8000 munkahelyet számolhatunk össze a városban. A lakosság nagy részét középosztálybeliek, gazdálkodók és kiskereskedők teszik ki, ez utóbbiak
vállalkozásai fontos szerepet játszanak a városkép formálásában. Településünk szélén a közelmúltban több új lakóövezet létesült. A városközpont rekonstrukciója hamarosan befejeződik.
Mozgásban
Az aktív kikapcsolódás fő színterei közé tartoznak sportcsarnokaink, a városi gőzfürdő és szauna, valamint a városi uszoda. A sportkínálatot sportpályák, minigolf-pálya, bowling-pálya, valamint edző- és fitnessz termek bővítik. Rendszeresen szervezünk nyílt futóversenyeket is. A természetjárás és gyaloglás is népszerű a városlakók körében.
Fiatalok és idősek
Településünk évekkel ezelőtt elnyerte a családbarát város címet. Továbbra is hűek szeretnénk maradni ehhez a szellemiséghez. A kis gerlingenieknek bölcsődékben és óvodákban viseljük gondját. Ezen kívül napközi otthon, gyermekház, továbbá „pót-nagyszülői” hálózat is működik a városban. A nagyobb diákok többféle iskolatípusból választhatnak Gerlingenben. A pedagógiai kínálatot zeneiskola és népfőiskola bővíti. A városi diákönkormányzat fontos szerepet játszik a fiatalok szabadidős programjainak megszervezésében. Több kikapcsolódási lehetőség a fogyatékkal élők számára is elérhető.
Széleskörű szolgáltatások állnak az idősebb generációk rendelkezésére is. Ezek az általános információnyújtástól kezdve a személyes tanácsadáson keresztül a különféle ellátási formákig sok mindent magukban foglalnak.
Határok nélkül – barátok a világ minden táján
Több mint 80 nemzet fiai élnek Gerlingenben. Városunk 1969 óta patrónusa a II. világháborút követően Magyarországról kitelepített németeknek. Testvérvárosainkban, a franciaországi Vesoulban (1964 óta), a magyarországi Tatán (1987 óta), és az angliai Seahamben (1988 óta) sok nagyszerű barátra leltünk. A fiatalok az iskolai csereprogramok révén válnak részeseivé kapcsolatainknak. Városunk polgárainak nemzetközi elkötelezettségét az Európa Tanács 1999-ben Becsület Plakett kitüntetéssel jutalmazta.
Történelem és kultúra Gerlingenben
Letűnt korokat idéz Johannes Rebmann misszionárius 2004-ben felújított szülőháza. Rebmann volt az első európai, aki megpillantotta a Kilimandzsárót – 1848-ban.
Friedrich Schiller, a nagy német költő családja 1775-től 1796-ig élt a közeli Solitude kastélyban, mely 1942-ig a város közigazgatási területéhez tartozott. A poéta atyja, Johann Caspar, és nővére, Nanette, Gerlingen legrégebbi műemlék épületében, a Szent Péter templomban nyugszanak.
Gerlingen életében napjainkban is nagyon fontos szerepet játszik a kultúra. A művészet szerelmeseinek rendszeres találkozóhelye a városháza kortárs képzőművészeti galériája, a városi koncertteremben időről-időre színházi előadásokat is bemutatnak, az alkalmi filmvetítések a mozirajongókat vonzzák.
Városmúzeum
A városi könyvtár építészeti díjjal elismert épülete egyre több látogató számára valóságos „média-katedrális”. A városi múzeumban gazdag állandó kiállítás emlékezik meg a Magyarországról idetelepített németekről, akik jelentősen hozzájárultak Gerlingen 1945 utáni ugrásszerű fejlődéséhez. 2008-ban ünnepeljük Gerlingen várossá nyilvánításának 50 éves jubileumát.
Párbeszéd a természettel és egymással
Gerlingenben szinte a házunk ajtajából „társaloghatunk” a természettel. Városunk közelében számos túraútvonal található, szőlősorokkal teli hegyoldalak és zöld mezők, összesen mintegy 1754 hektár területen.
Persze, a gerlingeniek egymással is szívesen cserélnek eszmét, például a szombati heti vásáron, amelynek a polgármester is rendszeres látogatója. Gerlingen kisváros: minden saroknál ismerősökbe botlik az ember. Mondanivaló mindig adódik a városban – vagy a városról. Gerlingenben mindenki otthon érzi magát.
